Very upsetting news to share. Our mamma goat Maggie died last night.
The latch was broken on the gate and all the goats were out and roaming in the 'People' yard. Not usually a problem except Maggie ate something toxic.
We had her at the vet last night but it was too late.

Goats can not throw up like most animals so they cannot get ride of any poison in their systoms.
The vet asked if we had any rhodos in the yard. said he looses goats and alpaca to rhodo poisoning.

Jenny, Maggie's baby is calling and calling for her mamma, it is breaking my heart to hear her.

I went online to find out other plants that are toxic to goats. I am amazed at how many there are! I have no clue as to what most of them look like so if they are on the property I woudn't know anyway!
I am hoping to find someone who knows more about plants and trees than I do and ask them to wander the property and see what else may be lurking there!

We had a good time at the VIX. Met some angora goat breeders who are very interested in my goats.

One lady all but begged me not to get Hey Babe nuetered until he was old enough to breed with her doe. My goats would bring new blood lines to the island breeders. Something that it seems hasn't happened for a while!
My phone no. is being passed around already and I am wondering it I will in fact get calls from the interested breeders.

Although tempting, I don't think I want to make a bussiness out of my goats. At the moment they are pets and a hobby. To increase the herd or let Hey Babe go out as a stud services sounds like work not pleasure, I think it would take all the fun out of having them. So some time soon Hey Babe will go to the vet to be fixed.

I talked to the lady who was doing the sheep shearing and she agreed to come to the house after the show and shear Maggie for me. It coat me $45 but was well worth it to have it done properly.

I Can hardly recognise this girl as Maggie with out all the hair!

It is getting time to shear the angoras. Maggie for sure is looking shaggy at the moment.
We are going to the VIX today. Lots to see there but I am planning on finding the sheep shearing pen first. I am hoping to find a shearer to come to my place and do her for me.
I was going to do her myself but I don't want to take a chance of messing it up and loosing any of her wonderful fleece.
Hey Babe and Jenny are ok until spring. I am thinking each March and September will be good months to do them.

It has been a bit hectic around here for the last little while.

I have been going back and forth toVancouver to help my daughter with packing etc. for the big move over to the Island.
Moving day was so hectic but the worst is over. Sorting and un-packing seems almost as bad as packing it all up but at least unpacking can be done at their leisure.
Today the family has gone boating. I declined the offer to join them all. I have so much catch-up to do around here.
I finally got batteries for the camera. The pix are of grandchildren at the creek.
